Job Responsibilities

In preparation for the summer season of 2026, we are looking for lifeguards for Malmö City's beaches at Ribersborg, Sibbarp, Klagshamn, Sundspromenaden, and Scaniabadet. The work is carried out daily regardless of the weather, with lifeguards present throughout the season, and additional support during the school summer vacation. As a lifeguard, you will have an important mission where you can make a difference for the residents of Malmö, while also having the opportunity to develop and grow in your professional role.

As a lifeguard, you are responsible for monitoring and supervising the beaches; including shores, docks, and swimming ladders. The lifeguard's mission is to anticipate and prevent risks in the swimming area, such as daily scrubbing of swimming ladders and warning visitors of potential hazards. Your tasks also include promoting a pleasant environment to ensure that the beaches are clean and attractive. The role includes rescuing those in distress within the swimming area and, if necessary, performing life-saving measures while waiting for emergency services. Other tasks include basic first aid, providing information to guests, and ensuring that visitors follow applicable regulations.

Qualifications

We are looking for candidates who have completed or are currently pursuing a high school education. To be eligible for the position, you must be at least 18 years old and able to swim at least 1000 meters, dive 3.5 meters underwater, and tow a dummy in the water. Good knowledge of the Swedish language and basic knowledge of English are also required. If you have knowledge of additional languages, we consider that an asset. It is also an advantage if you have work experience from a similar position and if you have training in first aid, CPR, or if you have SLS pool lifeguard or SLS sea lifeguard training.

As a lifeguard with us, you will become part of a community, so it is important that you enjoy working with people and show interest and understanding for others. You have no problem establishing good relationships with both colleagues and citizens. Following rules and procedures is a given for you, as is handling ethical dilemmas in accordance with Malmö City's values.

Malmö City assesses that the role of a lifeguard is not suitable for anyone under 18 years of age, referring to the Swedish Work Environment Authority's regulations regarding youth employment. Therefore, you must be at least 18 years old to be eligible for the position.
